Do you want to know how to use your foam roller, but only have general information to go on?
This class is for you. Come learn the art of self-myofascial release and unlock your movement and minimize pain associated with working out, your daily activities of life, and even your job.
What is self-myofascial release (SMR)?
SMR is the use of pressure on certain points in the body to address tension imbalances in the fascia, which is the cobweb-like wrapping around your muscles. Freeing these areas can allow for better muscle contraction and release, improved range of motion, reduced swelling, and ease of chronic discomfort. There are many tools used for SMR, including foam rollers and small firm balls, such as a lacrosse ball.
Why do I need a guide?
Foam rolling is safe to do without a guide, but it can lack the same benefits you might receive with a little education. SMR creates a LOT of sensation, and people respond to sensation differently. Having an educated and trustworthy guide lead you through exercises gives you the opportunity to find, feel, and address areas of discomfort and tension while learning how to interpret the sensations and relax confidently into the techniques. This guided class will also provide foam rolling techniques geared toward chronic conditions.
What do I need to be able to do?
For best results, you will need to be able to sit and lie down on the floor, and put pressure into your hands and arms at times.
What do I need to wear/bring?
Wear comfortable clothes you can sit and lie down in. Avoid anything excessively baggy.
Bring your own foam roller (any size is fine; we will be using the short style). Foam rollers will be available at the studio for purchase for $7.50.
Bring your own water container. It is advised that you drink ample water for 24 hours after class (and always!)
$20 or free for members.
