We are delighted to have a special presentation by leading echeveria specialists Julia Etter and Martin Kristen, who live near Guadalajara and who have spent countless hours in the field seeking out these botanical gems. In their talk, they will show some of their most treasured echeverias, the adventure and fascination of finding them, and the incredible habitats they live in. Some of these species are stunning beauties, others have been lost for over a century, and a few are new to science.

About the Speakers:
Originally from Switzerland and Austria, Julia and Martin have focused on the two families, Crassulaceae and Agavaceae since 1989, which led to extensive field research starting in 1997. For several years they lived in their Unimog expedition vehicle “Poco Loco”, travelling between the southwestern US and Mexico. They relocated to Jalisco, Mexico, almost 25 years ago and are now (practically) Mexican. They are busy tending to the plants in their garden and greenhouse, caring for a large flock of chickens and seven cats, and of course trying to get into the field as much as possible. Since 2009 they have been working together with botanists of two Mexican universities. Echeverias have always been their favorite plants, with Echeveria juliana and Echeveria kristenii named in their honor.
Their photographs and articles have been published in many books, journals, and on the Internet. More info can be found on their website at crassulaceae.com.
