A Walk Through History Part II: Overdose, Recovery & the Present

The second of a two-part gathering to explore overdose, recovery, and remembrance through Waldoboro’s emotional history and a display of Images honoring lives lost to substance use, provided by Maine Sharing.

With Part I – "Overdose, Recovery & the Past" – taking place the day before (August 22, 6-7pm, Open House of History), Part II begins with a community cookout and live music, followed by a short walk to the former home of John H. Kennedy, who died of an overdose in the 19th century, for dessert and reflection. We then return to the Custom House for a remembrance installation of images from Maine Sharing (A Maine-wide Facebook group dedicated to honoring loved ones lost to overdose) and a sharing circle for surviving loved ones. This gathering honors those impacted by substance use today while drawing connections to the past.
