A Writers Series First: Fiction Workshop for Adults

You’ve called us, emailed us, sent letters via raven and slipped notes under our office door, asking us to provide writing workshops for adult students… and we’ve listened. In this six week course, students will workshop original fictions. These pieces may either be generated through the course of the class, or may be works already in progress. Short stories and novel excerpts are both welcome.

In addition to their own work and the works of their peers, students will encounter and analyze an array of published stories in order to figure out what makes them tick. We’ll discuss aspects of craft including description, dialogue, voice and narrative distance.

The class will culminate in a reading open to the public. No prior writing experience is necessary, just a commitment to write and willingness provide generous and thoughtful feedback.

The proceeds from this class will be donated back to the Raising Writers program, providing free creative writing classes for young people across Northern Michigan. Register on our website: nationalwritersseries.org/student-programs/fictionworkshop/
