ABOUT BRONX COUNCIL ON THE ARTS & BRONX MEMOIR PROJECT
A pioneering advocate for cultural equity, the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) nurtures the development of a diverse array of artists and arts organizations and builds strong cultural connections in and beyond The Bronx. We seek to strengthen the cultural ecosystem of The Bronx by nurturing its artists and arts organizations, and by serving the field at large and the public through programs that build connections, provide resources, and advocate for equitable practices.
The Bronx Memoir Project (BMP) is a community-based writing project that encourages a cross-generational, multi-ethnic collective of Bronx residents to tell their stories firsthand. Participants engage in free workshops, led by a professional writers, culminating in the opportunity to submit their work for publication in the Bronx Memoir Project Anthology.
"BCA is the only place I can find free writing workshops like these...It has had a great impact on my life and writing career. I've met fellow artists and formed great community through them." - Ron Trenckler-Thomson
The theme for the Anthology IX collection is Body, Memory, Witness: Weaving Personal Histories. From the stories our bodies carry to the inherited legacies that shape us, from the landscapes that define our journeys to the pivotal moments of self-discovery, this collection serves as a powerful testament to the act of writing as remembrance, healing, and bearing witness.
