Jazz Club Night @ Royal James: An Evening With Millie Palmer and Friends

After a short hiatus, Jazz Club Nights at Royal James have returned! Featuring Millie Palmer on Vocals, Will Beasley on Bass, Jon Hill on Drums, and Jake Beamer on Piano.

Millie Palmer was born and raised in Asheville, NC and has recently moved to Wilmington, NC. Growing up in a musical household, she began singing and playing piano and guitar at a young age, and began playing professionally in her early teenage years. Since then, she has made a name for herself as an expressive and distinctive vocalist, and an accomplished songwriter. Millie holds a music degree in Jazz Studies from UNC Asheville. Palmer's treatment of her original music as well as the music that she chooses to cover, is that of a sensitive and intuitive artist.

Bass player and multi-instrumentalist Will Beasley lives and makes music in Wilmington, NC. Will's interest in music began as a young boy when he listened to records by songwriters such as: Cat Steven's, Harry Chaplin, and later, rock bands such as: Rush and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. This led him to learn bass guitar in high school and then the double bass while studying jazz in college and graduate school. The early influence of narrative aspects of songwriting continue to influence his approach to music as well as improvisation. Time spent living and playing music in New York City, Asheville, and Champagne, IL, have given Will a well rounded experience of making music and a familiarity with a variety of genres and approaches to listening and playing. Will holds two degrees in music performance; a bachelor's from UNC Asheville, and a master's from the University of Illinois.

Jon Hill is currently the most in-demand drummer in Wilmington, NC. His proficiency on the kit spans many genres and styles, but he is most known as a stand out jazz drummer. He did his undergraduate work at UNCW, and holds a master's degree from NC Central University.

Jake Beamer is a rare local to Southeastern NC. While studying mathematics at UNC Charlotte, he had the opportunity to join the Jazz Ensemble, and fell in love with Jazz. His Jazz influences include: Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons, Erroll Garner, and Ahmad Jamal. When he isn't performing, Jake works for the city of Wilmington in their engineering department.
