VSW Workshop: Coding in the Park

Are you interested in making small games or web art? Or handcrafting your own DIY website? Don’t know where to begin? Coding in the Park is a free, accessible, community-oriented gathering for artists of all skill levels to learn about approachable workflows to making game art.

Informed by a beginner’s guide to game-making “toolkit” and led by VSW Assistant Curator and video game artist Nilson Carroll, this event will feature brief demonstrations and exercises in the first hour, with the afternoon left for creating, sharing, and question-asking. Collaboration is encouraged!

No prior experience necessary, and folks of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

Software covered includes the narrative-creation tool Twine and the lo-fi digital world-building tool Bitsy. Topics covered include basic game design and how to share game art online.

Weather permitting, this event will take place outside around Susan B. Anthony Square Park across the street from VSW, 36 King Street. If the weather does not permit working outside, we will move into the VSW studio space indoors.

Snacks will be provided. Please bring your own laptop.
