This training is designed for mental health practioners to provide a framework for practice with individuals and families using a model based on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and its trauma-informed care (TIC). The content presented will enhance the skills and knowledge base of learners and will be particularly useful to people working with youth, adults, and families using a short-term, strengths-based, and client-centered approach grounded in trauma-informed care (TIC). SFBT was created by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg (1994) and colleagues at the Milwaukee Brief Family Therapy Center beginning in the late 1970s. It has been successfully adapted to different populations and effectively implemented with a range of presenting issues. SFBT is an evidence-based, future-focused, goal-directed approach that helps clients implement change through eliciting and co-constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems, incorporating positive psychology principles and practices to build hope, positive emotions, and motivate people to achieve sustained change. Krause and colleagues (2018) proposed an integrated model using solution-focused approaches and TIC. This model of Solution-Focused Trauma Informed Care (SF-TIC) offers an empowering, collaborative, and deeply respectful evidence-informed approach for work with youth and families.
This workshop will provide 3 CEU credit hours to LMSWs, LCSWs, LMFTS, and LMHCs.
