Announcing the Brown Family Music Collections - A landmark gift for jazz at Ithaca College! The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Ithaca College is proud to announce the donation of nearly 1,600 jazz charts and arrangements from Professor Emeritus Steve Brown (M.M., B.S., Ithaca College) jazz collection—now one of the most significant jazz ensemble music collections at a private college in the United States. The collection also includes the Ray Brown collection, which is part of the almost 1,600 charts. Steve Brown’s remarkable career includes performances with jazz legends such as Chuck Israels, Billy Hart, Marian McPartland, Jimmy Smith, and Barry Harris; international concerts and clinics; and acclaimed recordings as both leader and sideman. His contributions as a performer, composer, author, and educator have left an indelible mark on the jazz world. The Brown Family Music Collections will serve as a rich resource for students, scholars, and performers at Ithaca College for generations to come.
To celebrate this extraordinary gift, the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Prof. Mike Titlebaum, will present a concert featuring selected works from the collection on October 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in Ford Hall.
