Join us as we open our summer exhibition celebrating the legacy of the American West through the eyes of some of its most iconic interpreters. Visions of the American West brings together a collection of works by artists who were drawn by the West's light, cultural history, and rugged beauty.
Opening Reception - Friday, June 20th from 5-8pm
With strong Cincinnati ties through artists like Henry Farny, Joseph Henry Sharp, William Meuttman, Joseph Scheuerle, Victor Casenelli and John Hauser, this exhibition invites viewers to consider Cincinnati's role in shaping the narrative. From vivid portraits to sweeping, sunlit vistas, each painting reveals something about the history, culture or natural beauty of the West.
Artists such as Oscar Berninghaus, Elbridge Burbank, Nicolai Fechin, Bill Freeman, and George Phippen offer portrayals of the landscapes, wildlife, people, and moments that defined the frontier and continue to shape our national identity.
In recent decades, artists like Michael Coleman, Caleb Meyer, John Paul Strain, Gary Niblett, and David Mensing have continued the tradition, creating paintings that celebrate the landscape or blend historical accuracy with cinematic storytelling.
Whether you're a longtime admirer of Western art or discovering it for the first time, this exhibition invites you to experience one of America’s richest artistic legacies.
