Set within the resonant space of Galiläakirche, this stripped-down performance by Joshua and Kathryn — the core duo of the experimental dark folk ensemble Lux Interna — reimagines offerings from their latest body of work, New Wilderness Gospel, as an intimate liturgy of improvised sound, song, and spoken word.
Interweaving minimalist, devotional renditions of songs from the album with atmospheric soundscapes and live readings from their experimental novella of the same name, the performance unfolds somewhere between the modalities of musical performance, prayer, and ceremony.
New Wilderness Gospel is a work of mythic storytelling and imaginal invocation. Conjured at the edge of ecological and existential unraveling, it seeks traces of grace within ruin — composing a kind of gospel for the Anthropocene: a wilderness sermon for those moving through endings and into the mystery of what comes next.
In this special duo performance, voice, guitar, chordharp, and ambient resonance create a space of radical listening and shared presence — a sacred rite for a time between worlds.
Lux Interna is a San Francisco-based music and art collective led by Joshua Levi Ian and Kathryn Ian, known for crafting immersive sonic worlds that blend elements of Americana, post-punk, desert blues, and experimentation. Over the years, the project has evolved through collaborations with a wide range of musicians, each contributing to its distinctive and emotionally resonant sound.
