An explorer of the freest jazz and a prodigal composer of film music, drummer Lucía Martínez (Vigo, 1982) is essentially a cosmopolitan artist who does not impose her own horizons. Although her affection for her port roots and the vindication of popular heritage always find a place in her proposals, she does not hesitate to incorporate all kinds of apparently disparate flavours, linked naturally and without prejudice.
His Berlin project with The Fearless is a good summary of all this: from Sergio Leone to Jewish klezmer melodies and from there to Bruce Lee, supported by an instrumentation chosen with excellent criteria - bass clarinet, horn, electronics and even a dj set - to encompass a wide variety of textures and expressive possibilities, and to offer a suggestive and moving canvas.
The Berlin-based Galician drummer and percussionist presents her latest project with five of Berlin's leading musicians. Her music combines the musical universe created by Ennio Morricone for spaghetti westerns, while calling back to other western soundtrack composers and recalling film icons like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and even Quentin Tarantino. The result is a beating, electro-acoustic jazz that stamps towards the Far West and incorporates sounds from the American heartland, honed by the European perspective of Martínez's compositions.
Modern jazz, with elements of improvised music, 'Lucía Martínez & The Fearless' showcases an artist at one of her creative best.
