Am 12. Juli haben wir einen etwas obskuren Eintrag in die Filmografie von Wes Craven. Denn genau genommen ist „Swamp Thing“ ja eine Comicverfilmung und wohl auch das erste Mal, dass dieser Stoff eine Realverfilmung bekommen hat. Die weibliche Hauptrolle spielt hier übrigens Adrienne Barbeau, bekannt aus The Fog und Creepshow.
Alec Holland, ein junger Wissenschaftler, arbeitet in den Sümpfen North Carolinas an einem Präparat tierischer und pflanzlicher Materie, das Lebewesen in jeder Art von Umgebung überlebensfähig machen soll. Ziemlich schnell erfährt der Millionär Arcane von diesen Forschungen und will sie für seine Pläne ausnutzen. Er sendet einen Lakaien, der in das Labor von Holland einbrechen soll um das Mittelchen zu klauen. Bei dem Diebstahl kommt es zu einem Unfall. Das Präparat wird kontaminiert und Holland bekommt einiges davon auf seine Haut. Er flüchtet in den Sumpf und verwandelt sich dort in ein furchtbares Monster. Er wird zu einer Kreatur, die zur Hälfte aus einer Pflanze und zur anderen Hälfte aus einem Tier besteht. Seine Gefühle sind trotzdem noch immer menschlicher Natur. Holland will sich rächen und es kommt zu einem Kampf mit Arcane. Auch dieser verwandelt sich in ein Monster. Kann es eine Rettung für Holland geben?

On July 12, we have a somewhat obscure entry in Wes Craven's filmography. Strictly speaking, "Swamp Thing" is a comic book adaptation and probably the first time this subject has been adapted into a live-action film. The female lead is played by Adrienne Barbeau, known from The Fog and Creepshow.
Alec Holland, a young scientist, is working in the swamps of North Carolina on a compound of animal and plant matter that is supposed to make living beings able to survive in any type of environment. The millionaire Arcane quickly learns of this research and wants to exploit it for his own plans. He sends a lackey to break into Holland's laboratory to steal the compound. During the theft, an accident occurs. The compound becomes contaminated, and Holland gets some of it on his skin. He flees into the swamp and transforms into a terrible monster. He becomes a creature that is half plant and half animal. His feelings, however, are still human. Holland wants revenge and a fight ensues with Arcane. He, too, transforms into a monster. Can there be any salvation for Holland?</english>
