So, yes, at the end of the summer we are opening up a memento window into the past life of Topsi, but also opening up a window into the now and the possibilities of the future by inviting you to a two week series in the experimentation of doing the Topsi way; music in a room with people, again and again.
For the occasion (or rather what brought up the occasion) the griot Assane Seck from Toubab Dialaw, Senegal, is in town and opens up for something we chose to call
Sbace Doundou
which is immediate music that arises from the meeting of West African percussion tradition, jazz and European experimental music. Doundou means groove in Wolof and stands for friction and tension, a basis for achieving a state of vibration both physically and mentally. Sbace (with an upside-down ‘p’) stands for the space/base in which self-expression comes to the fore. A space base that resonates and, above all, improvises boundlessly with the breaking points of music history. A celebration of sound and timing.
