FORMATION: Intergenerational Community Organizing through the Arts

Join us for FORMATION, an afternoon and evening dedicated to intergenerational community organizing through the arts. Curated by Berkeley Poet Laureate Aya de León, this event brings together people of all ages to experience dance, music, spoken word, and art-making while centering the cultural leadership of Black women and the diverse musical traditions of the African Diaspora. In times of struggle, FORMATION creates space for joy, resistance, and creative collaboration.
Event Schedule:
🔸 3:00-4:00 PM | Freedom Songs (Free – All Ages)
Come together to sing freedom songs that uplift and unite us in the fight for justice.
🔸 4:30-6:00 PM | High School Dance Party ($5)
A youth-driven celebration with hip hop, R&B, reggaeton, and inspiring youth activist speakers.
🔸 7:00-8:30 PM | Spoken Word & Live Music
(Adults: $10, Youth 18 & under: $5)

🔸 8:30 PM | All Ages DJ Dance ($10 or Free with a stamp from earlier events)
Dance to hip hop, R&B, reggaeton, salsa, and Latin house until late.
Throughout the day, engage in all-ages games & art-making that will allow you to tap into your creative spirit.
