Trance Music and Dance for Beginners

Synopsis: Music and dance made for inducing an altered state is something special. While just about any type of music can be used to get into an altered state, the music that was built to create and support those states makes it easier and more effective to reliably do it. Arlechina has been engaging with living ecstatic traditions of the Mediterranean for over 30 years and has spent the last 23 years guiding others through how it works. From simple trance for the sake of trance to traditional methods of deity Bridalwork, Arlechina can help you take it as far as you feel compelled to go. This beginner friendly class meets twice per month but you can drop in any time or miss a few classes, and it won’t hold you back. Each session we will work with 2 new rhythms and recap what was done in the previous class. We will also work on developing the body and mind to get you used to freely and safely going into and coming out of an altered state. All this will go hand in hand with rich, detailed information about trance traditions of the past and present.

More experienced musicians and dancers can also build on their existing skills in this course and help us to support the folks just starting out. This is a choose-your-own-adventure style class. You can just study music or just focus on dancing or you can do both! Notes will be provided. Please: -Bring a lightweight 18”-14” frame drum. -Bring a water bottle. -Wear something comfortable to move around in. Optional: Wear a white shirt if you want to get fancy with it.

This series of classes is purely donation-based. Proceeds assist in the maintenance of the facility we are using.
