Basque Witchcraft and Folklore

Basque is the only language isolate in all of Europe. It is believed to be the last remaining descendant of the pre-Indo-European languages. Basque culture and folklore is full of intriguing mysteries but what it stands out most for in popular imagination are its deep ties to magic and witchcraft. Remnants of archaic religion are often referred to as witchcraft and the Basque region was known for being a hotbed for it in the 16th century with witches openly observing the Akelarre (known in Basque as the Witches’ Sabbath). Come learn more about the gods, lore, and practices of Basque Witchcraft in this deep diving lecture with Arlechina.
