About the event

Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus (Sound & Vision)
Director Eva Aridjis Fuentes joins us in person for a post-film discussion.

For almost everyone, the entry point for discovering the music of Q Lazzarus comes via “Goodbye Horses.” The song first appeared in 1988, via Jonathan Demme’s MARRIED TO THE MOB, but it would not become fully lodged into popular consciousness until it infamously materialized again in Demme’s THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS in 1991.

“Goodbye Horses” felt like a self-contained universe—dreamlike and wholly unusual, an instant classic that left listeners captivated and curious about the mysterious voice behind it. That voice belonged to Diane Luckey, a uniquely talented artist whose music was ahead of its time and who would ultimately remain largely unrecognized in her lifetime.

GOODBYE HORSES: THE MANY LIVES OF Q LAZZARUS is an intimate journey through the life of Luckey, narrated through her own words, lyrics, and music.

Eva Aridjis Fuentes is a prize-winning Mexican-American director and writer. In addition to "Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus", she has directed five other features: narrative films THE FAVOR and THE BLUE EYES and documentaries CHILDREN OF THE STREET, LA SANTA MUERTE, and CHUY, THE WOLF MAN. She also wrote on Netflix's Narcos: Mexico and co-wrote the graphic novel Monarca, published by Harper Collins.
