The Birdcage (Big Screen Classics)

In this big-hearted comedy, Armand (Robin Williams) and Albert Goldman (Nathan Lane) own and operate The Birdcage, a vibrant Miami Beach drag club. Their son, Val (Dan Futterman), is on a mission to get married. The catch: he wishes to marry the daughter of Ohio Senator Kevin Keeley (Gene Hackman), a prominent right-wing politician, who certainly won't approve of the Goldmans' vocation or Albert's glamorous drag persona, Starina.

Armand and Albert decide the solution is to surreptitiously act straight as they welcome the unknowing conservative family into their South Beach home for an evening of innuendo, irony, and hilarity.

Dianne Weist, Calista Flockhart, Hank Azaria, and Christine Baranski round out the cast of THE BIRDCAGE, directed by Mike Nichols (THE GRADUATE, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?) from a script by Elaine May (MIKEY AND NICKY, THE HEARTBREAK KID).
