250th Anniversary of General George Washington Visiting Wallingford

Join the Wallingford Historical Society, The Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust and the Wallingford Public Celebrations Committee as historic re-enactors trace the June 1775 visit of General George Washington to Wallingford.

The battles of Lexington, Concord and Bunker Hill had recently taken place and Washington was traveling from Philadelphia to Boston to take command of the Continental Army. Join General Washington as he visits Wallingford to buy gunpowder and interact with Wallingford residents.

General Washington, escorted by an entourage consisting of General Charles Lee, Major Thomas Mifflin and Major Samuel Griffin, the ladies of the DAR and members of the 2nd Company Governors Foot Guard will leave Town Hall at 45 South Main St immediately following Flag Day Ceremonies and proceed up South Main to Michael's Trattoria where Washington will converse with Justice of the Peace Oliver Stanley, Merchant Caleb Atwater and Tavern Owner Jeremiah Carrington.

The entourage will then move onto Caleb Atwaters store at the corner of North Elm and Christian where Washington will discuss the purchase of gun powder.

The group then moves onto the Royce House at 538 North Main where Washington chats with Capt. James Royce, before giving his farewell to the townspeople.
