Join community members, nonprofit partners, and local leaders—alongside the Cornhill Empowerment Center Partners, including the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Mid-Utica Neighborhood Preservation Corporation (MUNPC), and the City of Utica—for the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting of the newly reintroduced Cornhill Empowerment Center.
Formerly known as the Empowerment Center and previously managed by the Home Ownership Center, the facility is now under the leadership of the Community Foundation and will soon feature programming led by local nonprofit organizations. The grand opening invites community members and organizations to the Cornhill Empowerment Center to connect, explore, and share ideas regarding the kinds of programs and initiatives they’d like to see offered in Cornhill.
Schedule of Events:
· 1:30 p.m. – Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
· 2:00 p.m. – Open House: Explore the Space & Learn About Programming Opportunities
· 2:45 p.m. – Depart for guided walk to Cornhill Revitalization Project Sites
The Cornhill Empowerment Center will serve as a model for future projects planned in the neighborhood. The Community Foundation, MUNPC, People First, The Collective Impact Network, and the City of Utica are steering an investment of more than $77 million toward the Cornhill Revitalization Project and its longevity over the next 30 years. This includes the anticipated West Street and James Street Impact Centers, which will serve as anchors for this community transformation.
“We are thrilled to welcome the community into this space and begin this exciting new chapter,” said Tyler Hutchinson, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Community Foundation. “The Cornhill Empowerment Center represents a collective commitment to unlocking opportunity, preserving the neighborhood’s history, and building a bright future for everyone who calls Cornhill home.”
