WHAT: Workshop held by Townsville Writers and Publishers Centre
ABOUT: This workshop is aimed at the more advanced Word users, includes:
· Settling on a style for your book.
· Selecting a size for your book.
· Thinking about margins. Headers and Footers. Mirror images. Styling, fonts and how to utilise your ‘heading styles.; The best fonts to use. What is True Type font? Using drop caps. How to ensure the bottom edge of writing all finishes on the same line. How to utilise line spacing and kerning effectively.
· There will be exercises for participants to practice some of the commands for themselves.
Step by step handouts for some of the more complicated situations, and a list of short cuts, as well as a list of websites that may be of further use.

PRESENTER: Alyson Walton
PRESENTERS BIO: Alyson Walton has been a member of the TWPC for many years. Although she has always been writing, her passion ignited when working at a small mining town newspaper where she had the opportunity to write a regular soapbox column.
Alyson has written several novels and novellas, but it wasn’t until last year she published her first novel, a fantasy, Black Blood and Stone. She is also the host for the QWC Writing Saturday held at the Riverway Library.
Alyson has been delivering mini workshops on various writing topics for Townsville Writers and Publishers Centre.
She was invited by the Townsville City Libraries to deliver a Character Writing Workshop - workshop during the Festival of Writers and was a guest on a speaker panel at the Douglas Shire in August 2025
