____________
Race Rules & Regulations - PLEASE READ!

1.) All dachshunds MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED PRIOR TO EVENT DAY. Registration will not be accepted on the day of the race unless another racer forfeits their racing place.

2.) All dachshunds and mixed-breed dachshunds (example: chiweenies) are permitted to enter the race. Wiener Dog Race Officials will use their discretion if there is a dog in question wishing to enter the race, they and may request proof of breed. Large dogs greater than 35 lbs mixed with a dachshund shall not be permitted.

3.) All dogs should be up to date on vaccinations. We ask that there be no female dogs in heat. As well, if your dog is exhibiting any symptoms of illness (e.g.: kennel cough), we ask that you not bring your dog.

4.) All entrants must be current residents of Newfoundland & Labrador.
5.) Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times except during the race.

6.) Dogs are encouraged to wear a bandana of some sort. This will allow easy identification of the winner for the judges.

7.) Dogs will be raced in pre-assigned heats. The winner of each heat shall proceed to the championship race.
Please note that very senior dogs may be carried by their owner and will still receive a participation medal and certificate (they just would not be eligible for the championship race). Any dogs that have limited mobility and who may have wheels are permitted to enter the regular race, as long as their owner feels comfortable with their dog doing this.

8.) No treats or food are permitted in the racing area.

9.) Squeaky & regular toys are permitted to be used to lure the dog to the finish line. Balls should not be thrown at any time during the race. Laser lights are not permitted to be used.

10.) Two people are required to race the dog. One person shall release the dog (Releaser) at the start line and another person shall recall/catch the dog (Recaller) at the finish line. You may not run alongside the dog.

11.) All dogs must be released at the announcer’s command. All dogs must be a minimum of 12 inches behind the start line; otherwise it will be considered a false start.

12.) Dogs must start the race with all four paws on the ground behind the start line. Absolutely no throwing or tossing the dog at any point during the race is permitted.

13.) If the Recaller reaches across the finish line and touches/grabs their dog, this will result in disqualification. Racers must cross the finish line with a minimum of all four PAWS crossing before a winner is determined. ALL Recallers must remain entirely behind the designated catcher’s line, until ALL dogs have crossed the finish line. Note: the dog does not need to go directly to their owner, rather needs to completely cross the finish line.

14.) All judge rulings are final. In the question of who won, the judges may request a re-race between the dogs in question. There will be video footage recorded for determining who wins.

15.) All owners will be responsible for clean-up of any accidents of their dog.

16.) Failure to follow any of these rules may result in disqualification.
Finally, please note that the entrants are not career racers or bred for racing. This race is in good sport and fun. Please note that any poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.

See you at the Finish Line!
***All dogs will receive a participation certificate and medal. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and trophies to accompany the prizes.***
