AUDITIONS ANNOUNCEMENT!
THE JUDAS SHEEP
By: Jeff Boam
Directed By: Paige Balitski
Auditions for The Judas Sheep will be held at Diva on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17 from 7-9 pm. Come with possible rehearsal conflicts and be ready to read sides from the script.
This show runs September 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21, 2025.
Set on Good Friday in 1983, The Judas Sheep concerns the curious case of Shuteye, a dwindling East Texas community dogged by murderous town bully Buck Skidmore. With tensions running high and desperation seeping in, a group of five citizens hole up in the town’s VFW to decide what to do with their mutual problem. Loosely based on the real life broad daylight murder of Ken Rex McElroy in Missouri in 1981, The Judas Sheep pits the Law of God, Law of the West and American Justice on a collision course in a Reagan-era conservative Texas small town.
VIC TURRET, a 40-ish Vietnam War veteran who took a long time coming home after the war, co-owns the town bar with his brother but spends his workdays on the killing floor of the local slaughterhouse.
MAC TURRET, Vic's mid-30s younger brother, was once the town's high school football star but has become doughy, passive and recently resigned as town marshal.
Clad in a baseball cap and overalls, 50-something, good-humored, scrawny farmer DENNY COOLBAUGH spends his life in a wheelchair, the result of a gunshot wound to the back courtesy of the town bully, Buck Skidmore.
PUDGE PERSIMMONS, a 60-ish fireplug of a woman whose husband was reputedly killed by town bully Buck Skidmore, wants only to move on from that subject and onto the planning of the town Easter Parade.
A fire and brimstone evangelist preacher with an oily pompadour, 50/60-something PASTOR JEROBOAM CARVER wears showy, ornate western duds that are more befitting of Roy Rogers than a traditional cowboy, but this man is an Old Testament minister through and through...in his mind, there is only an angry God.
Usually scantily-clad, drunk and looking for a fight, ALMEDA SUE SKIDMORE, the trashy 20-something wife of Buck, has the eyes and rasp of a much older woman, heavy make-up included.
SHERIFF MILLARD LONGKESH, a 60-something, leathery, bony old cowboy who looks like he moseyed out of a Cormac McCarthy novel, has been tasked with assembling the chosen townspeople but nobody knows where he ultimately stands on the matter.
