About the event

DocuClub - in-person AND via Zoom
Our final meetup before breaking for a summer hiatus will be Friday, June 20, and will feature our customary social hour, leading into feedback screenings for three terrific projects: a trailer by Troy LaFaye, a documentary short by Falcon Gott, and a feature doc by longtime friend of docuclub, Andres Parra.

Once again, we’ll be hosted by FilmNorth in their brand new space in St. Paul. This month's Docuclub will again be a hybrid event. That means we'll be meeting in-person at FilmNorth AND we will link up via Zoom with remote attendees. If you're unable to attend the event in-person, please tune in via Zoom at 6:30pm for a brief introduction, screenings of works-in-progress, and feedback sessions and discussions. More info below! In-person 5:30pm, Zoom 6:30pm.

Please note our policy on addressing the group: If you have an event you wish to promote at the meeting, or if you wish to offer your services or seek a collaborator for a project, you are always welcome to do so informally during the in-person social hour. But if you wish to make a formal announcement, please let me know before the meeting so I can include you on the schedule. If approved, you’ll have a brief 90-second slot to address the gathered group.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS for in-person attendees (5:30pm):

We have some new procedures we will need to follow at the new FilmNorth location.

First, PARKING:

There is a parking lot about 100 feet east of the FilmNorth building. (More info about the lot below.) Technically, unrestricted parking begins in this lot at 6pm. However, if you get there a few minutes before 6pm, it’s probably fine. If you are arriving right on time for our 5:30pm start, you may choose to be safe and park on the street. Best options can probably be found on nearby Raymond Ave or Territorial Road.

You can see an overhead view of the 6pm-and-after lot on this page: https://filmnorth.org/about/location-and-hours/

You’ll know you’re in the right lot if you are surrounded on several sides by an impressive handful of supercool murals. If you plug this address into Google Maps, it should take you directly to the lot:
2417 University Ave W
St. Paul, MN 55114

Next, GETTING IN THE BUILDING:

Please go to the front door of the FilmNorth building at 2441 University Ave West in St. Paul. It is a secured door, so you’ll need to use the touchscreen pad to request the door to be buzzed open for you. On the touchscreen, please choose the FilmNorth Large Classroom. I will then buzz you in.

Once in the building, DO NOT turn right into the FilmNorth offices. Instead, in the left corner of the wide-open lobby, you’ll see a door to a stairwell. Go down the stairs to the basement level and through the door, and you’ll find us!

- At 5:30pm, we'll start the evening with a social hour / potluck. Very relaxed and informal. BYOB and please bring a shareable food. NOTE: red wine is prohibited.
- At 6:30pm, we'll then gather round and connect with our Zoom participants on the big screen. After brief introductions, we'll begin the screenings.
- After the screening, we'll provide feedback and participate in a discussion with the filmmakers.

- Please note, I likely won't be checking email or Facebook during the event.

INFO FOR ZOOM PARTICIPANTS (6:30pm):

If you haven't yet received an email with the Zoom link for this meeting, please send an email to request the link:

In an effort to accommodate any folks unable or hesitant to attend in-person events, and to welcome our many Docuclubbers around the state, and participants around the country with Minnesota ties, we are making this another hybrid Docuclub!

The hybrid portion of the event will begin at 6:30pm. Online participants will experience the event as a regular Zoom meeting, with one camera capturing the roomful of in-person participants at FilmNorth. The Zoom meeting will be projected on the big screen for in-person participants.

In order to avoid trespassers crashing our Zoom, I'll be sending the meeting info via the email above. Even if there is a small chance you'd like to join us, please send an email to the address above to receive the Zoom link. Please try to send an email before 5pm June 20. (If you are just reading this on June 20 after 5pm, you can still send an email, but I may not see it as I'll be hosting the meeting.)

Please bear in mind that there may be technical and logistical hiccups, and we'll do our best to manage them promptly, but please be patient as we navigate this format.
