Dailen Williams is a lot of things: a self-taught musician, a DJ, a visual artist, an educator, and an organizer. In her Queer dance-pop project she employs cheap old keyboards, guitar pedals and literal toys to create work characterized by buzzy basslines, shimmery drones, and secret polyrhythms.
A self-taught producer, Dailen began DJing and beatmaking in 2011, eventually going on to start various above and underground party-series around Providence with her peers, including the experimental club night Approximate (2016), the inflatable art installation series Ice Floe (2016-2018), the monthly queer dance party Hot Club II (2019-2020), the sober Queer party Que Dulce (2021-2022), and the local producer showcase Focus Group (2022-2023).
As a teacher Dailen prefers more a practical approach, grounding heady concepts in everyday examples and encouraging could-be artists to make beautiful work with what they already have. Dailen has prepared a deep, yet paletable curriculum that feels a bit more like a fun science class than a lecture.

Info: We're skipping right to the fun part. In this class we get everything installed and start poking around with sounds and keyboards. By the end of this class you should have a rough idea of how a beat is made in Ableton - and perhaps you make a really simple one..! Don't fret if the things you make don't sound good just yet. There's still 3 more weeks and you've got so much more room to grow. :)
Info: In this class we're learn how to make soft leads and chubby basslines. Together we'll explore how modern synthesizers work, what the heck "EQ" is, and why modular synths are neat and niche. Gotta walk before you can run!
Info: Now that you've seen the synths we can trust you with the samples. After all, it's important to know where things come from. In this class we'll do some field recording, granular experiments, and make lofi beats to study to. Oh, and effects, too!
Info: Last class! Now that you how how to make pretty sounds we'll show you have to make pretty songs! Some simple music theory and composition basics to get you on your ways to making hits and classics. Good luck out there! :)
