But as we celebrate, let’s keep in mind the complicated history behind the carnival sideshow: while it gave many disabled and marginalized performers a rare way to make a living, it also came with real exploitation and pain. So when you choose your character, do it thoughtfully, pay homage, don’t mock. Respect the stories behind the spectacle.🖤
