This month, join us for a special tour departing from the Gateway Center at Roger Williams Park!
We will leave at 6:00 pm from the Gateway Center, and finish our tour at that same location around 8:00 pm. This tour will be led by Gallery Night Guide Irene Yibirin with Guest Guide Charlotte Abotsi. We will visit the following locations and exhibits:
The Providence Commemoration Lab (PCL) is a collaborative program, organized by The Department of Art, Culture and Tourism (ACT) and the Rhode Island Historical Society (RIHS). PCL works with artists to create temporary, public art/installations geared towards commemoration and understanding in communal spaces. Currently PCL is highlighting work by nine artists at three locations in Providence: Roger Williams Park, Columbus Square, and Public Street. Gallery Night’s August 21st tour will visit several of these sites and feature talks from PCL artists, including Edwige Charlot and k. funmilayo aileru, Raffini, at her sculpture, I (Eye) Am Woman (RW Park), and Shey Rivera Rios, who will discuss her cultural intervention pieces, “Abre Caminos” and “Museo de las Ancestras” (Columbus Sq.).
La Galería del Barrio presents What Color Are Your Feelings? Artists of all backgrounds and skill levels showcase work that visually represents emotion and highlights Latinx identity through color.
The Roger Williams Park Gateway Center presents a special exhibition from the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Mobile History Museum, Healing Histories: Youth Mental Wellness and the Power of Representation. This exhibit explores stories of “resilience and resistance” in Chinese, Cambodian, and Vietnamese-American communities and highlights the legacies of Chinese American women whose defiance of an oppressive legal system has persisted for over a century.
Half of the seats on the trolley or mini coach will always be available (first-come, first-served), completely free, to anyone who shows up on Gallery Night!
The other half of the seats are available to reserve in advance via Eventbrite. We ask that you donate $1 when you check out, for the convenience of guaranteeing your spot on the tour of your choice ahead of time.
Reserving Multiple Tickets? Eventbrite requires you to make a separate reservation for each ticket. Each time you put in an order, it's only for one ticket (even if you choose to donate more than $1). For example, tickets for 3 people would be 3 separate orders, each with a $1 donation.
