Great American Demo Derby (Sponsored by Southern Maintenance and Repair)
The Triad of Thunder Championship Series hits the halfway point to open the 168th annual Perry County Fair in Pinckneyville, Illinois.
The fair derby is among the oldest in Southern Illinois, having gotten its start in 1971 in front of a sold-out grandstand during the 115th annual Perry County Fair.
The derby's inaugural champion was Pinckneyville resident Harold Pierce, driving car No. 50. The Harold Pierce Memorial Cup (top overall driver across all classes) is named after him.
