Elements of Value with Andrea Thompson

Join artist and educator Andrea Thompson for a dynamic two-hour workshop focused on the element of value. Participants will explore the full range of drawing pencils and learn how to use them effectively through guided, hands-on exercises. Discover how to transform simple shapes into three-dimensional forms using shading techniques, and experiment with mark-making methods like hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling to create tonal depth. The session also includes observational drawing practices such as blind contour sketching, continuous line drawing, and value studies. With interactive activities and creative processes, this workshop is designed to build both technical skills and artistic confidence in a supportive, engaging environment.

Materials required: pencils (6B, 3B, HB, 3H), paper, eraser, blending stumps, pencil sharpener
