Spring Indie Folk Fest: Nite 2: Wychwood, Amanda Lowe, and Eric Montpool.
Expanded from the seasonal Spring Indie Folk Nite Fest in Ottawa, Loch Monster Media’s Spring Indie Folk Fest brings a weekend of musical FUN to the city on May 16th to 18th. The inaugural festival features major-festival-playing and award-winning acts aside local talented favourites. Doused in genres of indie, folk, and a crossover of the two, the weekend features sets at Vincent Massey Park on Friday, and along Somerset and at Art House Cafe on Saturday, with a finale at Live! On Elgin on Sunday evening. Donations are accepted for outdoor and cafe acts, with limited tickets available for Saturday and Sunday night. Look forward to it!
Bios
Wychwood: Wychwood might just be the world’s first “blackgrass” band. The duo of Chrissy Steinbock & Tim Kitz play old murder-ballads and other spooky traditional folk songs, with some bright and sentimental spots thrown in for contrast. At their concerts you can expect gritty vocal harmonies backed by banjos & guitars, along with a smorgasbord of other instruments – accordion, saw, harmonica, bass, glockenspiel, ukulele – that sometimes run through biting distortion and dreamy reverb for extra flavour. //
Amanda Lowe: Born in Sri Lanka and raised on Prince Edward Island, Amanda’s experimental-folk music blends in roots from both islands that raised her. With a voice like honey and ethereal guitar-loops, her walls of sound cradle grief and summon love. She breaks your heart open, only to make you feel whole again. //
Eric Montpool: Eric Montpool is a guitarist, singer & songwriter based in Ottawa. Since 2022, Eric has made his mark on the scene as the frontman of Noise Hotel - Ottawa's favourite velvet-clad indie rockers - and has recently emerged as a solo artist to highlight a different side of his sound. As a solo artist, Eric draws inspiration from his folkie heroes Joni Mitchell & Gordon Lightfoot, singing heartfelt acoustic songs, but still retains his rock roots when playing upbeat and electrified jams with his bandmates. Whether you're seeing home on the stage with Noise Hotel, playing guitar for Ottawa acts like Hannah Vig, or on his acoustic guitar at a solo set, Eric Montpool is sure to entertain.
