About the event

The Legacy Expo

Hosted by Damselfly Death Doula ( https://www.damselflydeathdoula.com/) and the When You Die Project (www.whenyoudie.org) the Ottawa Legacy Expo is designed for individuals and families navigating the complex topics of end-of-life planning elder care advanced planning and legacy creation. It’s not just an event – it’s a movement toward living with intention and preparing for a meaningful future. The Legacy Expo’s mission is to shift the narrative from one of taboo and fear to a space of open dialogue learning and community strength. This is done through education networking and sharing within a safe space.

If you are in the death care field end-of-life profession or simply someone looking for more information about how to be prepared for the end this event is for you!

After three very successful expos in Toronto it’s now Ottawa’s turn to welcome the Expo and help the public become aware of the services available to them when they need it the most. Ottawa’s Legacy Expo is not just one day but a weekend of separate events!

Friday June 6th: Death Over Drafts at CRAFT Beer Market: This is a casual community-driven event with origins in Los Angeles California that brings people together over drinks to have open meaningful conversations about death dying and end-of-life planning. The perfect event for those that may be a bit weary about talking about death but are curious to get the conversation started.

Saturday June 7: A Film Screening at Amica in the Glebe: A screening of the first film in the When You Die Trilogy: “In the Realm of Death & Dreaming” followed by a discussion and question period. On Sunday June 8th at 1pm the Glebe Community Center will open its doors to the public to welcome those to experience the expo. Locals can expect to learn about services offered in Ottawa from those within the community. With 20+ vendors people will be able to learn how to talk to children about death and grief become better prepared in creating estate planning and even learn about support groups offered for those grieving the loss of a pet. From Death Doulas to long term care homes the Expo is a safe space to explore what Ottawa has to offer under one roof. What’s more is that this expo is special because it is being used as fundraiser and official launch for the Home Hospice Association’s H.O.P.E. Mobile Hospice.

P- Peace & Dignity at

E- End of Life

The Home Hospice Association believes that no one should die alone unseen or without dignity — no matter where they lay their head. It is for this reason that they have created the H.O.P.E. Mobile Hospice. Units will exist to bring compassionate end-of-life care directly to people who are living and dying on the streets. Marginalized communities often lack access to quality end-of-life care leaving many to face death in isolation. The Mobile Hospice Service seeks to change that by delivering compassionate life-affirming support—directly to individuals in need wherever they are providing support rooted in the belief that hope still matters at the end of life.
