Artist’s Statement:
I have been exploring the limitless possibilities of my imagination, inspired by George Lucas’s Star Wars stories as a vehicle, to transport me to a Galaxy far, far away. I hope to inspire and encourage creativity in others through my creations.
I enjoy finding creative solutions to the projects I build.
I build my Star Wars doll characters out of whatever I can find that will create the desired effect and be as accurate to each character as possible. I start by researching the characters' stories and costumes in books, movies and on the Internet. Then I design and draft the patterns for the various components of each costume, working in layers, using "used" paper. The dolls' costumes are mostly made out of re-purposed materials. I use scraps from previous projects and fashion other parts out of many different and broken things that would otherwise be thrown away. I have found most of the dolls that I use to build my creations second-hand and at local resale stores. They too now have found a second-life as characters in my Star Wars universe.
I discovered that building the Star Wars costumes for dolls is a great way to research costumes and celebrate favorite Star Wars characters and stories.
