Let’s Create!
First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages. Join us for all things creative, with activities related to two of our temporary exhibitions, "Suchitra Mattai: The Fall" and "The Floating World and Beyond: 200 Years of Japanese Prints."
A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:
• Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
• Out & About Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; get comfortable in the Community Room for this storytime program. There also will be opportunities to learn more about all the great things happening at area libraries.
• At 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm, watch a demonstration of Kendo, the art of Japanese fencing, with Omaha Kendo and Iaido Kyokai
• Be part of a collaborative, large-scale weaving project, inspired by Suchitra Mattai and many other fiber artists whose work is on view in the Museum. Join teaching artist Therese Straseski for this outdoor art-making activity in our Discovery Garden.
• At noon and 1 pm, join Alexis Espinoza-Arrubla, Fern Foundation for Kids, for mindfulness activities. For all ages.
• Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
• Join a public tour, led by our Gallery Volunteers; 11 am, Made in the Plains; and at 1 pm, Meet The Joslyn. Free, drop-in experiences.
• Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, "Made in the Plains" tickets are free to all today; always free to Joslyn members.
• The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
• Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).
Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
