The artist :
MARIKO OKEDA was born in Tokyo, where she began piano lessons at the age of three with her mother. Throughout her formative years in Japan, she took further studies with Chikako Yoshioka, Kazuhiko Nakajima, Midori Kono, and Yoshie Kora.
During a thirty-year career at a Japanese cultural institution, Mariko dedicated herself to fostering international artistic and cultural exchange, based in Japan, Germany, and the Philippines. After several decades of independent exploration and self-study, as well as appearances as a piano soloist and chamber musician, she decided to continue refining her artistry under the tutelage of internationally renowned and multi-awarded Filipino concert pianist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz.
Mariko is the collaborating pianist of the Manila Chamber Music Ensemble, whose debut performance was held last June 2024, as part of the Manila Pianos Artist Series. She was also the featured soloist in Double Pentagon's MOZART FESTIVAL 2024, for which she performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, K. 488 with the Narra Quartet. She has also been an active accompanist for instrumentalists and choirs in Manila.
PELLEGRINAGGIO marks Mariko's Philippine solo recital debut. It features a program reflecting upon Mariko's pilgrimage to the music she has been embracing all her life!
