The artist:
Jet Stephen Chong, a pianist of Filipino-Chinese descent, has garnered numerous accolades in both Philippine and international piano competitions, including top honors at the National Music Competition for Young Artists and other prestigious competitions. He made his orchestral debut at age 15 with the Manila Symphony Orchestra and later performed Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. His solo recitals have taken him to the Philippines, Singapore, and the USA—most recently in Chicago, as part of the renowned Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series under the Filipino-American Music Foundation’s young artist roster.
A passionate advocate for music education, Jet has participated in numerous benefit concerts and music camps, like when he served as a Teaching Artist for RMTC Studio’s Music Day Camp in Albay last June 2024, sharing his expertise with the next generation of musicians. He also enjoys chamber music and collaboration, having performed in various collaborative concerts. This season, he partnered with two singers in presenting full-length voice degree recitals at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He was also a featured musician in Tertulia, a Filipino chamber music concert presented by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Negaunee Music Institute and the Filipino-American Music Foundation.
A full scholarship recipient since junior high school, Jet studied at the Philippine High School for the Arts, Chiang Kai Shek College, and Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he serves as an Associate Instructor in the Secondary Piano Program and a Teaching Artist with the Jacobs Virtual Academy. His mentors include Mary Evans Villalon, Anthony Say, Albert Tiu, and Spencer Myer.
Recent career highlights include performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 with the Narra Quartet and giving a recital in the Goldenberg Concert Series, a project of the First Lady of the Philippines. He was also the featured artist in the inaugural performance of a house concert series in Pasig City, aimed at spotlighting young Filipino musicians and growing the classical music audience.
