Beneath the decks of The Golden Hinde, names from the past echo through the timbers - real people who sailed into the unknown, who braved storms, faced mutiny, and made history.
This summer, help remember them, and imagine who else might have sailed - by contributing to The Sail of Stories, a growing flag of symbols, identity, and imagination.
Discover the story behind the ship’s name and those aboard
Design a symbolic square inspired by a real or imagined crew member
Add your own coat of arms (your identity) to our shared sailcloth
Children and families are invited to reflect on identity through colour, shape, and storytelling. Using fabric, wool, and pens, each square becomes a creative tribute, stitched together as part of a collaborative installation aboard the ship.
For younger visitors, it’s a chance to express big ideas through simple marks and colours. For older children, it’s a way to explore history, symbolism, and the power of personal storytelling.
