Acclaimed Wyoming author Craig Johnson visits Elk River Books with the 21st novel in his wildly popular Sheriff Longmire mystery series, Return to Sender, for a free reading and discussion on Saturday, June 14, at 6 pm. A book signing and reception will follow.
The publisher describes the novel as “one of Walt Longmire’s most baffling cases encountered in Wyoming’s brutal and unforgiving Red Desert.
“When a mail carrier with the longest postal route in the country, covering more than 300 miles a day, goes missing, Sheriff Longmire is the one to try to find her. Posing as the new mailman, Walt follows her trail and finds himself enveloped in the intrigue of an otherworldly cult.
“Packed to the brim with twists and turns, Return to Sender pushes Walt to his absolute limits, forcing him to wrestle with an impossible question: What good are your morals, if you’re marked for the dead letter office?”
Johnson is the New York Times bestselling author of the Longmire mysteries, the basis for the hit Netflix original series Longmire. He is the recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award for fiction, the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award for fiction, the Nouvel Observateur Prix du Roman Noir, and the Prix SNCF du Polar. His novella Spirit of Steamboat was the first One Book Wyoming selection. He lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population 26.
“Like the greatest crime novelists, Johnson is a student of human nature,” notes the Los Angeles Times. “Walt Longmire is strong but fallible, a man whose devil-may-care stoicism masks a heightened sensitivity to the horrors he’s witnessed.”
For those who can’t attend in person, the event will live-stream at YouTube.com/ElkRiverBooks.
