The next Unicorn Ceilidh at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock, will be on Friday 10th October, featuring the Bristol Ceilidh Quartet and caller Ollie Simons.
The Bristol Ceilidh Quartet is a funky, folky ceilidh band based in Bristol, with a string quartet lineup and a big sound! The band brings together three experienced English folk fiddlers and a fab cellist to make a unique sound with loads of energy and drive. The band take great tunes and create exciting arrangements exploring the dynamic range of the string quartet. This isn’t serious classical music though, all the musicians have spent many years playing for traditional dance; every tune is calculated to get feet tapping and people on the dance floor.
Calling the dances will be Ollie Simons from Cambridge, making a welcome second visit to Unicorn Ceilidhs in a year! His repertoire of dances will have everyone on their feet and dancing all evening through!
Interval entertainment this month will be from local song group, Jack in a Barrel - a six-piece acapella group based in Bedfordshire who have been performing regularly at folk clubs and festivals since forming in 2018. They recorded their debut album, “I Know Not Where I Live” in 2019.
Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AE, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £13, concessions and children’s tickets available (see website for details). There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.
All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for full details and to book tickets on line.
