About the event

Auditions: Legally Blonde the Musical
“A rollicking and spectacular musical about staying true to yourself and discovering your own inner strength and beauty.”

Directed by Brian Farnham with music direction by Angie Schwab
Auditions: June 15 & 16, 2025
Callbacks: June 17, 2025
Performances: September 11-14 & 18-21, 2025 on the Main Stage

Director/Choreographer Brian Farnham and Music Director Angie Schwab are looking for a principal cast of eleven actors and between 11-13 ensemble members to fill out the cast of 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭! Please note that the descriptions below are intended to give⁣
auditioners a general idea of what the casting team is looking for, but that all individuals will be considered. For example, while an age range is listed for each principal role, this is intended to⁣
represent the age that an actor can portray, not to limit the casting pool to people of a given age. That having been said, the casting team is not looking to cast actors under the age of 18 for this⁣
show.⁣

We also believe that all shows, including 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭, are made SO much better through diversity. While certain traits cannot be altered (for example, Elle must be blonde), the team is actively looking for a cast that spans a diversity of racial, age, and gender identities. Please do not count yourself out because “they’ll never cast me for that” – come audition and show us what you’ve got!⁣

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧:⁣
𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 will be held Sunday, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟓 and Monday, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟔, both at 7:00 pm on Riverwalk Theatre’s Main Stage. While walk-ins will be accepted, the casting team would prefer that all auditioners fill out the following quick survey to indicate your interest and schedule your audition time: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NNP8XJM
𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 will be taking place on an invitation-only basis on: Tuesday, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟕⁣

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞:⁣
𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤: Auditioners are asked to please prepare a song approximately 32 bars in length – an accompanist will be provided and we ask that you ideally bring sheet music. You may sing a cappella if you do not have sheet music. Please do not plan to sing from a karaoke track.⁣
𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦: Open auditions will also involve learning and performing a short dance combo, to be taught the night of auditions. Please wear comfortable footwear. We will not be reading from the script at open auditions, so be sure to show us your acting through your song and⁣
dance!⁣

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:⁣
Performances for Legally Blonde the Musical will be 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏-𝟐𝟏. The lengthy rehearsal process is intended to strike a balance between the needs of a large musical, while giving enough flexibility to account for volunteers’ summer schedules. In general, rehearsals will take place at 7:00 Monday-Thursday with time off for holidays.⁣

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭⁣
𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 (lead, mezzo-soprano voice with a strong belt) – A woman in her mid-20s, she is the heroine and central figure of the musical, she is strong, intelligent, and charismatic. The actor portraying Elle must be comfortable being on stage for the entire show, and must be able to portray a dynamic empowered woman who undergoes profound change throughout the story.⁣
𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 (lead, baritenor) – A man in his late 20s-30s, and a nose-to-the-grindstone teacher’s assistant at Harvard Law who sees the potential in Elle when no one else does. This actor must portray a character who is kind and sensitive, but also tough and driven.⁣
𝐕𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 (supporting, mezzo-soprano) – A woman in her mid 20s, she’s an ambitious Harvard Law student who at first despises Elle, but grows to see her as a role model and equal. Warner’s girlfriend after he dumps Elle. This actor must be able to play both antagonist and protagonist throughout the show.⁣
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐈𝐈 (supporting, tenor) – A man in his early to mid 20s, he is the pompous, handsome, and privileged son of old money, he views women as a means to an end and serves as an antagonist for most of the story. This actor must strike a balance between being an objectively bad person without being too dislikeable.⁣
𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 (supporting, mezzo-soprano) – A woman in her late 30s-40s and a down-on-her luck hairdresser who quickly befriends Elle and becomes a steadfast support system on the East Coast. This actor must have excellent comedic timing.⁣
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐧 (supporting, forties or fifties, baritone) – A man in his 40s or 50s, who is a ruthless, amoral law professor who hires Elle and her classmates as interns to defend Brooke Wyndham. Callahan is the primary antagonist of the second Act, and proves to be narcissistic and cruel. This actor must be able to ooze contempt.⁣
𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐖𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐦 (featured, mezzo-soprano) – A woman in her 30s, and a former Delta Nu sorority sister who married a 60-year-old man who was later found dead. Styled the ‘exercise queen’, she has the tenacity of a personal trainer with the heart of a sister-in-arms. This actor must be able to both dance and sing concurrently.⁣
𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭, 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚, and 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 (featured, sopranos) – Women in their 20s who are Elle’s Delta Nu sorority sisters, they form a Greek Chorus throughout the show, giving voice to many of Elle’s thoughts and feelings. They are fun, hugely energetic, and own the stage. Each actor must be comfortable with significant singing (often in harmony) and dancing.⁣
𝐄𝐧𝐢𝐝 (featured, mezzo-soprano) – A woman in her 20s, and a classmate of Elle’s at Harvard Law who embodies the intellectual feminist. Smart, witty, and bombastic, this character needs to⁣
be portrayed by an actor with subtlety and great comedic timing.⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 (13-17 actors)⁣
Unlike in many musicals, Legally Blonde the Musical does not have a ‘chorus’. Instead, each member of the ensemble will be expected to portray numerous minor characters who come into and out the story throughout. Significant lines, singing, and dancing will be required of all ensemble members. Most parts are to be triple or quadruple cast.
