Summer Read-a-thon at the British Council Lahore Library
Looking for an exciting and rewarding way for your children to spend their summer? Look no further! Our Summer Read-a-thon at the Lahore library is the perfect opportunity for your kids to embark on a reading adventure and discover new worlds between the pages of their favourite books. This readathon will also include facilitated workshops with the Salaam Award-winning writer, Sakina Hassan on writing stories and book reviews!

Duration: 12 July to 2 August 2025
Age Group: 5 to 16 years old
Registration fee: PKR 1800 for members and PKR 2200 for non-members

Programme objectives include:
· helping children become motivated, confident, and engaged readers and communicators
· introducing children to a wide range of authors and literature to improve their reading skills
· encouraging children to participate in activities and enhance their writing and speaking skills
How does the programme work?
Children who join the programme:
· will have access to our physical library for the duration of the read-a-thon
· will read a minimum of five books or more from our recommended reading list to receive a completion e-certificate
· will participate in an orientation session, two specially designed workshops, and a closing ceremony during the four-week read-a-thon
· will receive an e-certificate upon successfully completing the reading challenge

At the orientation session, we will share some guidelines for the readathon and give all participants a list of suggested books and materials. Members will be able to borrow books from the library and non-members can read from their own collection. In the closing session, the participants will share their thoughts on the books they have read in the form of a book club.
This event is appropriate for children aged 5 to 16. Prior registration is mandatory, therefore, kindly register each participating child along with a parent/guardian. Please note that you will receive a confirmation email from our library team with access guideline details before the event. About the facilitator:
Sakina Hassan is a Salaam Award-winning writer and former librarian specializing in kid lit and storytelling. She is freelancing as a writer and a children's event planner and curates magical and meaningful writing experiences for individuals of all ages. Her work has recently been published in Lakeer Magazine, And Other Poems, Mightier, and Himal Magazine.
