Gardens are artful, meaning they are skillfully planned. Even a cottage garden, that may look haphazard, has been carefully designed with thought about color, texture, foliage types, and more. At the Cornell Botanic Gardens, sculptures and murals are used to expand educational impact, foster a sense of interconnectedness between people, plants, and place, and enhance enjoyment for our visitors.
Join Artist and Blacksmith Durand Van Doren, who has been creating fine, handmade ironwork for over 25 years, and Jean McPheeters, docent, to tour the botanic gardens and learn how Durand's creations connect us with plants in the herb, flower, and winter gardens. At the conclusion of the tour, you are invited to drive to the Arboretum gates, where Durand will discuss this important art piece. Event will be held rain or shine. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited.
