Ishpeming is getting ready for the First Ever Finnish Summer Solstice Fest in Hancock Michigan!
Michigan's Juhannus Summer Solstice Celebration is a Finnish summer festival held annually on the weekend before June 24th, which is the summer solstice on the Julian calendar. The 2025 festival is scheduled for June 20-22. This event is organized by Visit Keweenaw, the City of Hancock, and The Finnish Long Drink.
The festival highlights include:
Blazing bonfires: Gathering around fires for warmth and tradition.
Saunas and cold plunges: Experiencing Finnish wellness traditions.
Live Finnish music and dance: Enjoying performances celebrating Finnish culture.
Wife-carrying contest: Participating in a fun and quirky competition.
