Salt Dances (folk dance gathering - Session I)

You are invited to learn 4-5 circle dances (from medieval to modern). There will be two days of learning and review. Thereafter, you will also be invited to dance said dances on the evening of Wednesday, May 14th. 2025 in Geneviève's Bachelor's concert. **Both workshops and concert are free of charge.**


1. LEARNING SESSIONS (you are not required to attend both):

* Session I - Saturday, April 26th @ 13:00-16:00 (Sibelius Academy, N-Talo, Dance studio N-K11)
* Session II - Sunday, April 27th @ 17:00-20:00 (Sibelius Academy, Musikkiitalo, Dance Studio S1105)


2. ONE MANDATORY REHEARSAL (for dancing in the concert):

* Tuesday, May 6th @ 18:00-20:00 (or)
* Saturday, May 10th @ 13:00-15:00


3. BACHELOR'S CONCERT (the show):

* Wednesday, May 14th @ 18:00-19:00 (Musikkitalo Black Box)

4. WHAT:

We will explore some elements and variations of:

- Branle d'Ecosse (or Scots Branle)
- Rondeau
- Katrilli (or Quadrille)
- Chapelloise
- Cercle Circassien

As a sidenote, there will be a choreographed order to the dances in the show, and therefore one rehearsal is required for both clarity and safety of all participants. However, the main focus of this venture is not on creating a polished performance, but in learning and sharing dances and music, meeting folks from different backgrounds, and (hopefully) having a lot of fun.
