Why do we stop believing in fairy tales at some point?
Four imaginary worlds come together in the When I was a rock -exhibition — spaces where we transform into something else, see the world differently, and search for something that may exist only in our minds. The works move between documentary and fiction, raising questions about the truth value of photography.
The exhibition includes photo installations, video works, a photobook dummy, and an artist's book.
About the Artists
Sofia Eskola (b. 1990) is a visual artist and a student at Lahti Institute of Design and Fine Arts. Sofia is inspired by tentative installations, photo books and the materiality of photography.
Miia Korhonen (b. 2000) is an artist from Lapland, currently based in Lahti. She uses self-portraiture as a tool to process internal experiences while examining external societal norms and the impact of the gaze on identity. Miia is currently studying visual arts at the Lahti Institute of Design and Fine Arts (BA).
Viivi Päiväsaari (b. 1999) is a visual artist working with lens-based media. She uses analog techniques and a material-driven approach, creating works such as cyanotypes, printed publications, and collages. Her process is largely intuitive, allowing for an experimental and playful approach to photography and its possibilities.
Armi Utriainen (b. 2003) is an art student who approaches video and photography through performance and text. She is inspired by naivety and things that annoy her.
