Playhouse Stage Company and the Town of Guilderland present the enduring Rodgers & Hammerstein classic Oklahoma! for 4 encore performances at Guilderland’s Tawasentha Park! One of the landmarks in 20th century theatre, Oklahoma! not only launched a new era in the American musical, but also began the most successful songwriting partnership in Broadway history. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land. This groundbreaking musical that set the stage for all that followed is a lively, tuneful night of theatre full of cowboys, farmers, romance and fearless optimism. RUNNING TIME - 2 Hours, plus a 15-minute intermission. The play is open to all – with free parking and admission. Our concession stand will be open at each show with light snacks and beverages.
Playhouse Stage Company has been producing free, outdoor summer musicals in Albany's Park Playhouse since 1989 and is excited to bring these encore performances to GPAC in conjunction with The Town of Guilderland. This production is led by veteran PSC director Chuck Kraus and choreographed by Playhouse Stage Academy alumni Alexis Papaleo. Long-time PSC associate, Brian Axford, will music direct and lead the live, on-stage bluegrass band for the production.
