Creative-in-Residence Call: The OH NO! House
The YES! House is looking for a creative, self-motivated individual to work alongside staff and volunteers in leading the creation of the annual OH NO! House—a collaboratively built haunted house located in the basement of The YES! House.
The OH NO! House Creative-in-Residence will work with volunteer teams to design and build the haunted house at The YES! House from October 1, 2025 through October 30, 2025. After the event, the Creative-in-Residence will be responsible for helping take down the haunted house. A date for take-down will be set at the beginning of the residency in coordination with staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities
The selected OH NO! House Creative-in-Residence will be expected to:
- Create artistic decor and props for the OH NO! House
- Collaboratively envision the theme and flow of the haunted house with volunteers and staff
- Lead the development of decor, signage, and activities for the main floor
- Manage the provided materials budget to purchase props, decor, and supplies for the event
- Check in on-site with The YES! House Program Director every week for at least 1 hour
- Maintain consistent communication with The YES! House Program Director during the residency
- Complete all assigned tasks by October 30 at 12 PM
- Provide their own travel to and from The YES! House and during the residency
- Assist with take-down of the OH NO! House with staff and volunteers
Compensation and Support:
- The selected OH NO! House Creative-in-Residence will receive:
- $1,000 artist stipend
- $800 budget for materials
- Mileage reimbursement up to $400
- The option to stay in one of The YES! House apartments during some or all of the residency
- A designated workspace at The YES! house for this creative project
Program and Selection Timeline:
August 29: Call for Creatives Application Form opens
September 21: Applications due by 11:59 PM CST
October 1: Residency begins
Early November: Residency ends (after take-down)
