Bringing their "Coal Fired, Pure Kentucky Bluegrass", The Kevin Prater Band. Band Leader, Kevin Prater, presents his hard driving, high energy, highly talented band. Kevin Prater has been a fixture on the bluegrass scene for 45 years, a journey that began at age seven. Kevin has worked with many legends of bluegrass including Mark Phillips and Third Generation, Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain, Jerry Williamson and Redwing, The Bluegrass Brothers, earning a Nomination as "Banjo Player of the Year". Kevin is most known for his time as the "Machine Gun Mandolin Player" of The James King Band for twelve years. During his time with James King Band Kevin was blessed to be part of two "Album of the Year" awards, a "Song of the Year" from SPBGMA and a "Recorded Event of the Year" from IBMA.
Kevin was nominated for "Banjo Player of the Year" during a three year stint with The Bluegrass Brothers.
A multi-award winning, multi-instrumentalist, Kevin has led The Kevin Prater Band throughout the USA and Canada the past 16 years. Kevin is well respected his lonesome, high tenor vocals added to a range of material from traditional bluegrass to original music, to grassed up rock and roll covers from outside the genre, to bluegrass gospel. Kevin has taken his God given talents around the world, playing in 24 countries and 49 states.
Kevin Prater could not bring the bands unique sound without the stellar group of talented musicians he is blessed to travel with. Each member plays multiple instruments and contributes to the band vocally, assuring no two shows are ever the same. Kevin Prater is still tearing up his favorite instrument, his Ron Cole Mandolin, though he plays every bluegrass instrument. On the fiddle, only female to ever play with band, Mallory Hindman of Reader, WV. At age19, in her 4th year traveling with the band. For her young age Mallory brings a strong resume of bluegrass experience, including studying under the late Byron Berline and Eddie Stubbs. Mallory also sings lead and harmony vocals. On guitar, mega talented Dalton Smith of Alderson, WV. Dalton is a former staff musician at Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Theater in TN. Dalton plays it all, sings it all and is totally at home on stage. He is a real-deal, entertainer with a true passion for bluegrass music. On banjo new to the band, as well to as to touring, Codie Allen of Campbellsville, KY. Codie is a recent graduate of Campbellsville University. Codie has a hometown band, Red Wire Bluegrass. On bass, Larry Cadle of Galion, OH. Larry is a great multi instrumentalist and vocalist with a love of The Seldom Scene and Larry Sparks and other heroes of bluegrass. Larry has played in bands of many different genres, but his heart always comes back to bluegrass.
