Join us at for an evening of sublime music and fine wine at BACH & BORDEAUX: SIX VOICES, the CELLO SUITES of JS BACH | Part II. Immerse yourself in the sounds of Bach's supremely popular and beloved cello suites performed live in a beautiful vineyard setting by the world class faculty of Fredericksburg Music Festival and School.

The Lavender House at Becker Vineyards will open at 7:00PM allowing you to sip on exquisite wines and savor the moment with music at 8:00PM.

Suite No. 4 in Eb major, BWV 1010

Kenneth Fredigman, cello

Kenneth Freudigman, the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Grammy Nominated Camerata San Antonio, has an extensive musical background. He served as the Principal Cello of the San Antonio Symphony from 2004 to 2022 and currently holds the same role in the new San Antonio Philharmonic. With a degree from the Eastman School of Music, he has studied under renowned teachers such as Steven Doane, Alan Harris, and Crispin Campbell.

In addition to his work in San Antonio, Mr. Freudigman has performed with esteemed orchestras like the Atlanta Symphony, Mexico City Philharmonic, Grand Rapids Symphony, Virginia Symphony, and the New World Symphony, among others. His reputation as a cello pedagogue is highly regarded, and he also serves as the Conductor of Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Symphony and Concertino Orchestras.

For the past 30 years, Mr. Freudigman has maintained a successful studio, tailoring lessons to meet the unique goals and challenges of each student. His teaching philosophy revolves around building a solid foundation through the fundamentals of string playing. He assesses the developmental stage of new students and guides them towards success.

Suite No. 5 in C minor, BWV 1011

Steuart Pincombe, cello

The American cellist, Steuart Pincombe, quickly made a name for himself as an exquisite interpreter of early and contemporary music who was keen to experiment. Steuart is regularly featured as a soloist and chamber musician in  in leading venues across North America and Europe including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Concertgebouw Brugge, RADIALSYSTEM V Berlin, Bozar Brussels, Tivoli Vredenburg, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and the Kauffman Center, but he is equally at home playing in your local cafe or brewery. His playing has garnered wide acclaim from the public and critics alike: The Philadelphia Inquirer calls him “a gorgeous player with perfect intonation, imaginative phrasing”, The Strad Magazine refers to him as a “superb soloist”, virtuoso cellist Giovanni Sollima calls Steuart “a complete artist, true virtuoso and poet, totally at ease with all languages and musical styles”, and an audience member once said “You’da asked me a week ago if I’sa gonna be here, I’da said ‘hell no’. Well I’m here - and I love this stuff [Bach]”.

In addition to his numerous chamber engagements, he has appeared as soloist with ensembles such as Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop (DE), Holland Baroque (NL), Wallfisch Band (UK), Symphonie Atlantique (NL), Apollos Fire (US), and the Springfield (MO) Symphony (US).  His concert 'Bach&Beer' was selected by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as one of the 'Top 10 Classical Events of the Year' and a concert in which he appeared as soloist with Rene Schiffer and Apollo's Fire was numbered in London's '5 Best Classical Music Moments of 2014' according to The Telegraph (UK). If you can't hear him live, Steuart makes regular appearances on radio and has been featured on BBC, CBC, NPO, and NPR and has recently begun recording for 7 Mountain Records in Amsterdam.

With the aim of equipping other leading artists to engage with new audiences Steuart and his wife Michelle started the Music in Familiar Spaces Artist Collective which is made up of some of the leading performers of our time. Steuart and Michelle recently moved to Missouri (US) to start a small, off-grid farm.

Suite No. 6 in D major, BWV 1012

Camden Shaw, cello

Camden Shaw is the cellist of the Dover Quartet, the Penelope P. Watkins Ensemble in Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has appeared with the ensemble in performances all over the world to great acclaim. Mr. Shaw has collaborated in chamber music with such renowned artists as Daniel Hope, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, and the late Leon Fleischer, and maintains an active career as a soloist. Highlights from recent seasons include a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, Op. 56 with the Artosphere Festival Orchestra, where Shaw also holds the principal chair; and the release of his solo album by Unipheye Music, which was met with critical praise.

Mr. Shaw graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2010, where he studied with Peter Wiley. Other major teachers include Norman Fischer, David Finckel, and Steven Isserlis. He performs on an instrument made in 2010 by Frank Ravatin.

Mr. Shaw joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2020. He also teaches at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music.
