Yoga offers us a chance to explore new landscapes in our body and mind. Weekly classes are like short walks in a forest preserve - we can still hear the traffic of daily life.
From time to time, it’s nice to take a longer hike and venture deeper into the wilderness of the self. Extended practice periods give us a chance to slow down and hear the quieter voices within. These voices often have important messages to convey.
Join Nick for three luxurious hours of yoga, meditation and mindful outdoor experience at a nearby park (weather permitting). He will offer practices from the ParaYoga, Phoenix Rising and Kripalu traditions, poetically embroidered with relevant philosophy, evolutionary biology and brain science.
This expedition will include:
Lecture and conversation
Extended all-levels yoga practice
Guided relaxation
Periods of sitting and walking meditation (outside if weather permits)
A meditation practice to continue at home, if you wish
This afternoon is suitable anyone with basic yoga experience; no prior meditation experience is needed. Bring a snack and perhaps a journal. We have chairs for meditation.
If weather allows, we will spend the last hour of practice meditating with the natural world at Harbert Park in west Evanston. The park is a 5 minute drive from the studio; directions will be provided and car-pooling arranged.
Cost: $65, members save 15%, scholarships available
